CPA, Tax Preparation and Accounting in Yuma, AZ

K&R Strategic Partners is an Arizona CPA firm providing tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping and payroll services to businesses and households in Yuma, AZ. Credentialed CPAs and licensed Enrolled Agents do the work, and we serve Yuma and Yuma County from our Mesa office at 6861 E Main St, through an encrypted portal and scheduled calls, starting with a free consultation. Yuma also has its own economics, winter vegetables, a seasonal workforce and a population that swells with winter visitors, so payroll, residency and cash flow behave differently here than in Phoenix.

Why growers and seasonal employers work with us

Seasonal businesses get judged on the twelve weeks that matter, and a preparer who only appears in April never sees them. K&R is a professional services firm with 1000+ active clients and a 4.9 Google rating, and the Yuma work that reaches us usually involves labor reporting, equipment timing or a residency question that a national chain answered too quickly.

Seasonal and H-2A labor reporting
Yuma County certifies thousands of H-2A guest workers each season. Those wages follow their own rules for Social Security, Medicare and federal unemployment tax, and reporting them like ordinary payroll creates errors that take years to unwind.

Equipment, depreciation and cash flow
Ag equipment purchases are the biggest lever most growers have, and the deduction depends on when the asset is placed in service. We plan those before December rather than describing them afterward.

Winter residents and part year filing
Snowbirds who spend the season here often owe returns in two states. Domicile, day counts and which state taxes what are decided by facts we can help you document, not by where the mail goes.

WHO WE WORK WITH

Getting started with a Yuma client

It begins with a discovery call and a look at the last two or three returns plus your payroll reports. That review typically surfaces a deduction left on the table, a labor reporting exposure and one item that can be corrected this month. You get it in writing, we implement it with you, and we stay in contact through the season instead of reappearing at filing time.

Arizona and Yuma County obligations

Arizona collects a Transaction Privilege Tax from the seller instead of charging the buyer a sales tax, and Yuma adds a municipal layer with separate classifications for retail, contracting and commercial leasing. Farm and wholesale activity often qualifies for exemption certificates, and keeping those certificates on file is what protects the exemption during an audit. Employers deal with A-4 withholding elections, new hire reporting, and the annual filing on business equipment, which matters more here because equipment values are high. For seasonal workforces, federal treatment of certain agricultural wages differs from ordinary payroll, so the reporting has to be set up correctly at hire rather than corrected at year end.
Most tax firms see you once a year. We build long-term relationships because consistent guidance compounds over time.

FAQs

Get answers to common questions about our tax preparation, accounting, and advisory services for businesses and individuals in your area.
Do H-2A wages get reported like normal payroll?
No. Wages paid to H-2A agricultural workers follow different federal rules for Social Security, Medicare and federal unemployment tax, and income tax withholding is generally not required unless the worker requests it. The setup has to be right from the first payroll, because corrections across several seasons are expensive.
I spend winters in Yuma and summers elsewhere. Where do I file?
Usually in both places, as a resident of one state and a nonresident or part year filer in the other. Which state gets what depends on domicile and day counts, and both are provable facts we help you document rather than assumptions.
When should I buy equipment to get the deduction?
The deduction turns on when the asset is placed in service, not when it is ordered or paid for. That is a planning conversation in the autumn, and it also depends on whether the income it offsets is arriving this year or next.
Do farm sales owe transaction privilege tax?
Some activity qualifies for exemption, and some does not. What protects you in an audit is holding valid exemption certificates for the sales you treated as exempt, filed and current. We set that documentation up as part of the bookkeeping.
Can you handle a Yuma business remotely?
Yes. Files move through an encrypted portal, meetings are by video or phone, and replies come inside 1-2 business days. Our office is at 6861 E Main St in Mesa if you want to meet in person.
What does the first appointment involve?
A free consultation, usually by phone or video. We look at your last two tax returns, your payroll reports and how the books are kept, then tell you what we would change and what the service costs before you commit to anything.
