CPA, Tax Preparation and Accounting in Flagstaff, AZ

K&R Strategic Partners is an Arizona CPA firm offering tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping and payroll services in Flagstaff, AZ. CPAs and licensed Enrolled Agents staff the work, and we serve Flagstaff and Coconino County from our Mesa office at 6861 E Main St. Everything runs through an encrypted portal and video meetings, replies land in 1-2 business days, and the first consultation is free. Flagstaff also brings two things a generic preparer tends to get wrong, a city minimum wage set independently of the state and lodging rules that split by length of stay, and both are routine work for us.

Why Flagstaff owners hire us

Most owners who move their accounting to our firm do it after a rough year rather than a calm one. A seasonal payroll fell out of step with the city ordinance, a nightly rental was licensed under the wrong classification, or revenue jumped and nobody revisited the entity. K&R is a professional services firm with 1000+ active clients, a 4.9 rating on Google, CPAs and Enrolled Agents on staff, and the habit of reading the state rules before writing the plan.

Flagstaff payroll is its own animal
The city sets a minimum wage independently of the state, and since January 1, 2026 tipped staff must be paid the full base rate. That changes scheduling and cash flow for restaurants, shops and tour operators, and we build payroll around it.

Lodging and rental classifications
Long term residential rent stopped being city taxable in 2025, while stays under 30 days sit in the transient lodging classification and remain taxable. Getting those two apart is where most rental owners lose money or invite a notice.

WHO WE WORK WITH

The way the engagement runs

A discovery call comes first. We review prior returns and your payroll setup, then send written recommendations, usually including one thing to fix this month. From there the relationship is continuous rather than seasonal, because most of what changes a Flagstaff tax bill has to be decided while the year is still running.

Coconino County and city rules that apply

Two local items shape Flagstaff filings. The first is wages: the city minimum wage is set by ordinance and adjusts annually with the cost of living, reaching $18.35 an hour on January 1, 2026, with no lower tipped rate. The second is lodging, where stays under 30 days fall in the transient lodging classification while long term residential rent is no longer city taxable after December 31, 2024. On top of that sit the usual Arizona obligations: Transaction Privilege Tax under the correct classification, employee A-4 withholding elections and the annual filing on business equipment. We verify rates against current Department of Revenue and city publications each year.
Most tax firms see you once a year. We build long-term relationships because consistent guidance compounds over time.

FAQs

Get answers to common questions about our tax preparation, accounting, and advisory services for businesses and individuals in your area.
What is the Flagstaff minimum wage and does it affect my payroll filings?
As of January 1, 2026 the Flagstaff minimum wage is $18.35 per hour for all workers, and tipped employees must receive that full base rate. It is set by city ordinance and adjusts each year with the cost of living, so payroll needs a January review rather than a January surprise.
Do I owe city tax on a Flagstaff rental property?
It depends on the length of stay. Long term residential rentals of 30 days or more are no longer subject to city transaction privilege tax after December 31, 2024. Nightly and weekly stays fall under transient lodging and remain taxable, and the two need separate treatment in your books.
Can you work with a Flagstaff business without in person meetings?
Yes, and most do. Documents move through an encrypted portal and meetings are by video or phone. If you want to sign in person, our office is at 6861 E Main St in Mesa.
My revenue swings hard between summer and winter. Can you plan around that?
That is normal work for us. Quarterly estimates get sized against your actual revenue curve rather than a flat quarter, and cash flow reporting shows the shoulder months before they arrive.
Do you handle IRS notices, or only tax preparation?
Both. Our Enrolled Agents and CPAs can represent you before the IRS and the Arizona Department of Revenue on notices, audits, appeals and collection matters, whether or not we prepared the return in question.
What does K&R charge for tax preparation in Flagstaff?
We quote after the free consultation, once we have seen the return and the bookkeeping behind it. A single owner S corporation with clean books is priced differently from a lodging business with seasonal payroll, and we would rather give you a real number than a range that changes later.
